A Minute of Silence for SNSM

Posted by on

PARA Marine Search and Rescue will be taking a moment of silence on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 1800h (6pm) as tribute to the volunteer members of the Société Nationale De Sauvetage En Mer (SNSM) station at Les Sables d’Olonne, who lost their lives during a SAR operation on June 7th, 2019.

The crew of seven overturned their lifeboat, during Storm Miguel off the west coast of France in the Atlantic with winds up to 120 kilometres per hour, while attempting to rescue a fishing boat that had triggered its distress beacon. Four of the seven crew aboard the lifeboat managed to swim to shore, amongst the three crew members that lost their lives are Yann Chagnolleau (54), Alain Guibert (51), Dimitri Moulic (37).

Their sacrifice is an example of the commitment and dedication SARs volunteers possess in their mission to prevent the loss of life and injury.
